Why would you choose a tadpole trike?
If you enjoy the idea of riding a cycle as part of a fun outdoor activity and for improved health, but perhaps not so much that discomfort of the common bike saddle, or that potential neck ache from the forward lean body position of a classic road bike consider these tadpole features.....
The tadpole frame architecture is ideally suited for a recumbent style seat with significant comfort improvement over a traditional bicycle saddle. I often refer to my tadpole trike as my rolling recliner 😂
The stability of 3 wheels allows for very slow cruise, or even a full stop to enjoy a viewpoint along your route without having to dismount, while the range of gearing options of these machines allows for more than reasonable speed when needed. I often average between 10 and 15 mph on rides of 15 to 50 mile in distance with top speeds over 20mph and that's all with pedal power, if you really want deluxe cruising they make several e-trike versions with pedal assist motors. For those with an adventurous spirit they also make gravel / off road style versions.
The recumbent seated position raises the head for natural easy sightseeing and is ideal for longer relaxing rides. They even make optional head rests that can add more comfort.
The additional wheel logically provides more carry capacity, improved stability and balance than possible with a classic two-wheel cycle. You can add paniers (saddle bags), bring along a full picnic, choice of refreshments and maybe a change of clothes and shoes for an event at a ride destination and not worry about the added baggage causing tip over, or awkward balance.
Surprisingly the overall weight increase is modest, often only a few pounds more than a typical 2 wheeler and if your objective is enjoying the ride while getting a little healthy exercise the weight could be considered a benefit, with proper gearing the minor weight increase is unnoticeable and is more than compensated for by the comfort gain of the recumbent seat.
For those that like that little bit of fun from being just a little different, I always enjoy the curious looks and impromptu conversations that emerge when people see my less common ride.

Comfortable, Capable and Curious
Why is it called a tadpole?
Tadpole recumbent trikes have two steerable wheels in front and a single drive wheel in back. Often the back wheel is slightly larger than the front. This provides a profile silhouette that somewhat resembles its namesake. polliwog, baby frog or tadpole.
